  •  Not sure about Brown, either (0+ / 0-)

He's not helping us defeat Kasich.

That race is over. Kasich wins by default.

      Voters like simple explanations, like,

"For more than 10 years, FitzGerald drove official govt cars without a driver's license, demonstrating that he thinks he's better than the rest of us."
There you go, 25 words or less.

It's not exactly like Senator Eagleton (remember him?) lying about his mental health (which included hospitalization and shock treatment for depression). But it's enuff of an untruth to the party and the people to finish him off. Buh bye.

As of mid August, Fitz was within 6 points of Kasich.

The Plain Dealer has a notoriously dirty reputation for lying about Democratic candidates and polling results.  They're also very adept at coordinating with the GOP to lure/bribe crooked Dem elected officials into undermining and turning against Dem candidates.

The Plain Dealer, Kasich and big GOP funders began luring crooked Dem leaders, eg C Ellen Connally, Frank Jackson and pretty much every Dem official in Columbus.  They used to be able to peel off a couple of union leaders as well, until Kasich screwed the pooch with SB 5.

Ive spent too many election nights running into Brett Larkin and local GOP hacks picking up booze and snacks at the Brecksville Giant Eagle for their watch party with Jerry Hruby and the big money GOP donors.  Last time, I flipped him the bird. I have no respect for anyone who trusts or believes the Plain Dealer.

NE Ohio Dems (especially east siders) are living in a fantasy world, a cocoon. They're deluding themselves if they think they can allow the Plain Dealer and the GOP to pound democratic candidates into the dirt with phony smear campaigns and still win state wide races anytime in the next century. They've done it to countless Dem candidates for state wide and state level office. They did it to Gore. They did it to Kucinich, on and on and on.

There is never a Democratic candidate for office in Ohio that isn't better than a Republican. There is never a reason to throw Dem candidates under the bus just because the Plain Dealer runs some BS, lying smear campaign in their filthy rag. But I've watched Ohio Democrats sell out abd self destruct like this again, and again and again and again. I'm not a native to this state and will never understand or respect it.

If these Dems don't fight Kasich this time, we will have him as POTUS in 2016. If that happens, I will leave the Democratic Party and not because of Ed Fitzgerald, but because of the Dems who cower before the Plain Dealer and the GOP. I will no longer waste time or money on a party that refuses to fight Republicans. Never again.

          •  I don't care (0+ / 0-)

But let me ask you some questions.

Which Democratic candidate do you think the GOP and the Plain Dealer is going to allow Ohio Dems to run for governor?

Since you're willing to let them choose your candidates for the ballot, what kind of deals sre you willing to offer the PD and GOP to allow your candidate to run in a clean, fair race?  Keep in mind, they don't really care about how good the candidate's background is (Kasich, Voinovich), only about what you're willing to offer them.

Which Democrats will benefit from helping Kasich get re elected? Did they sell out Fitz so the business community can elect Armand Budish? If so, how is he such a great improvement for Cuyahoga County? How is he worth giving up the governors office for 12 more years? Does C Ellen think they'll allow her to finally win a seat on the OSC, or is she expecting a generous sinecure, something that pays better than the appointment Kasich has given her?

And how will the Dem POTUS candidate win in 2016 after the party has just handed Ohio to the GOP? Will immigration reform make up for losing another key battleground state?

Since this follows a comment about Brown, I dont believe he's involved in any special deals to let the PD and GOP give Kasich another 4 years, but its disappointing to see him fail to support a good candidate out of fear of the PD.

Surely theres a way to introduce a new daily news outlet to NE Ohio and put the PD out of business.

Except for one thing. Kasich will not even be in the running for POTUS because if he is reelected, his arrogance will have him mired in a massive corruption scandal within a year or so. He's already probably busy Christie'ing himself out of the race. I'm not concerned about that. I'm concerned that if we lose this time, everyone will be so demoralized — because we have so little fight in us — that Husted will slide into the governor's office in 2018 and we'll have another decade of extreme gerrymandering — with no hope of having any input until 2032. We will have a rigged presidential election in 2016 with voters kept from the polls in droves. We will have right to work for less which means Democratic campaigns will be even less able to compete on money terms than now. We won't be winning for decades in Ohio.

The gubernatorial race has been neck and neck for a year and a half. The only people who didn't believe that were US, which is friggin' tragic. My theory is our rightwing newspapers knew it and desperately wanted to be able to endorse Kasich but there is no case: virtually everything he's done has been destructive if you are not one of his wealthy cronies or donors. His term has objectively been a disaster.

So what to do? They have to first conceal things like Ohio's abysmal job creation and let Kasich get away with a lying campaign built on the idea that Ohio's economy is roaring. Second, they have to destroy Ed.

Do you know what would have happened if the Democrats had done to the Plainly Republican (Plain Dealer) or the Disgrace (Dispatch) with similar oppo research on Kasich (and I assure you it exists)? Not only would they have refused to run it, they would have run finger-wagging  editorials about how the Democrats are dragging the campaign in the gutter with character assassination and why aren't they talking about issues that matter.

When the Republicans bring their irrelevant oppo research, the newspapers become their obedient lapdogs.

Also Betty, I agree with you about throwing in the towel on the party, also not because of Ed, but because I am tired of talking to activists who have allowed the PD and Dispatch to think for them

          •  Keep dreaming about Kasich losing 2016 (0+ / 0-)

I really think he'll win. Hes shoveled billions of our tax dollars to his investor buddies. They'll work hsrd to keep that gravy train going. Regardless of his prospects, he kills the chances of Dems carrying Ohio in 2016.

No, this is one huge train wreck, and its going to keep going until Nov 2016.

But yes, I agree, Ohio Dems are quislings when it comes to the PD and Dispatch.  I've grown weary of working for and donating to their candidates only to watch them throw them under the bus. Mary Boyle? Oh yeah, she was cranky.

            I'll retire somewhere else.

The Republicans do not believe "the race is over." Neither do the rightwing newspapers who keep saying this primarily because they want to depress us and make us give up. WE are the only ones who believe "the race is over" which means it is. And if Kasich is reelected and Ohio becomes wreckage, which it will, that's YOUR fault, not Ed FitzGerald's. And I am never going to let the weak, faithless, spineless Democrats who swallowed the rightwing oppo research over trivia whole, that Ohio's continued economic, education and environmental collapse, its stripping women of all rights, its staggering tax load dumped on working people are all YOUR fault, not Ed's. Because you thought someone's drivers license (and I'll bet Kasich forgot to get his renewed too but the state newspapers think personal attacks are off-limits when Republicans are on the receiving end) was more important than all those other things.
