  •  No, I don't think it sigle handedly does anything. (11+ / 0-)

I think Nader's idea is very flawed.

I voted for Mondale against Reagan, Carter against Reagan and Ford, Clinton twice, and should have voted for Gore.  I will vote for the most left candidate among the two parties in the general election.

I did third party in 2000.  Not only was it pointless, I think it was harmful.

We live and do the best we can.  Hillary Clinton does not make me despair.  It's not like even Sanders of Warren are without flaws -- See, e.g., foreign affairs, Israel/Palestine.  Socialism is not on the agenda.

Climate change matters.  She believes climate change exists and is a problem.  That's good.

I have always found Clinton to be too hawkish.  But many Americans are still bloodthirsty.

I'm glad President Obama is cautious.  I prefer his caution to her more belligerent views,  but I see her as a liberal interventionist, not a neo-con.

You can work for O'Malley once he announces.  Or Sanders.   There will be primaries.

    •  Thanks for more info on your position. (4+ / 0-)

Glad HRC has come out about Climate look forward to see more of her proposals for action.

Quality question arises, ' How can we get Dems to give more than lip service to Climate Change action?'

I saw China is doing cap and trade.  That is very important.

This Month's U.N. Climate Summit Will Help Seal the Fate of Nations

According to a report from the White House Council on Economic Advisers,

from 2005 to 2011, the U.S. reduced its "total carbon pollution" more than any other country

from 2005 to 2011, the U.S. reduced its "total carbon pollution" more than any other country, and now comprises about 15% of global carbon emissions.

Other major players are also acting on climate change. China recently announced a regional cap and trade program to cut emissions, partly due to their widely-publicized struggles with air pollution. Narendra Modi, the new prime minister of India, has indicated his desire to move forward with expanding renewable energy programs to expand the country’s electricity network.

According to David Waskow, director of the international climate action initiative for the World Resources Institute, a Washington think tank, “countries have actually deepened what they are doing in very concrete ways" since 2009. In India, for example, Waskow said that Modi “is very committed to renewable energy as a key lever — if not the key lever — to increasing energy access in that country.”

    •  No, your vote was not harmful (0+ / 0-)

even if you were in FL. The Nader campaign was an attempt to get enough voted to win federal funding, which the Greens would have been used for grass roots organizing. Had he succeeded history would have been very different, as in much better.

      •  i know that is the reason we supported (0+ / 0-)

Nader, however the fact is, it didn't even come close to the 5% needed. It just made the election close enough for Dubya and his cronies on SCOTUS to steal it.

Yes, there was more to it than Nader, but he was a big contributing factor.

Like TomP, I will NEVER make that mistake again. I have a lot of issues with Hillary, but even she is way better than any cretin the repugs could put forth.

You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

        •  I wish I knew how many times I have to say it (0+ / 0-)

the difference between Kathleen Harris stealing 1000 votes and stealing 10,000 votes is a 0. Nader had nothing to do with it.
That said, you are right about Hillary 2016. We have to beat her in the primaries, we cannot risk the general. Besides, there is no grass roots third party building to vote for, at least for the foreseeable future.

          •  Say it as many times as makes you feel good. (0+ / 0-)

It won't change the fact that it is difficult to believe that out of the nearly 100,000 votes cast for Nader in FL, there wouldn't have been at least 1000 that would have voted for Gore had Nader not been on the ballot.

Kathleen Harris is a dirtbag, but the is the first I have heard accusations of her actually stealing votes. Any proof?

You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.
