I think anyone who seriously enmeshes themselves with DLC is wrong for our party. DLC was in lock-step with Bush over Iraq, and their savaging of Dean on this very issue was atrocious. For me they have done nothing but carry water for the republicans these last few years, functioning like a fifth column to, as the post says, to divide us and make us indistiguishable from the worst neo-con elements of the repubs.

Having said that, I think this post is misdirected in focusing on free-trade as their mahjor sin. As a "progressive" free-trader (meaning, supportive of free trade with attention to environmental protection and labor fairness), I hardly think that is the reason DLC is bankrupt as a dem organization. The essential problem with the DLC in the last election was their embrace of a war built on lies and fantasies of global empire, and their categorical insistence that any dem who opposed such a war, or indeed questioned the basis for such a war, was hurting the party. That was an unpardonable position, for which they should never be forgiven.
