  •  thanks making my comment.. (none)
i've been scrolling looking for this.  it was my first thought, too.  how does a VP have the historical credibility to make war?  no snark, pls.  really, how can he even think he can do it?
    •  A good honest question. What's Cheney thinking? (4.00)
      1. What's clear at first glance, is that Cheney is in charge of this, not Bush. This is such common knowledge, that it even gets glossed over.

      2. What's also clear is that Cheney really, really wants this. Since he runs things, all he has to do is convince Georgie it was necessary, after the fact. And let Georgie take the credit as a War President.

And that's all the historical credibility he needs, I think. It's less credibility than plausible deniability.

      3) Why does he want this?
      possible reasons:
      a) more money for Halliburton. (rationale - pure Social Darwinism. "What's good for the Top Dogs is good for America. I'm a Top Dog. I've earned the right to get whatever I can get.")
      b) more oil for America. (rationale - more like International Darwinism. America is great and strong. We're so great, we're entitled to whatever we can get. To keep America strong, we need to control oil.)
      c) control of the Middle East (rationale - basically the same as b - but with more of an angle of controlling what the rest of the world needs too.)

These mothers are dangerous. We need to get them the hell OUT of the office, and the Senate and Congress, and make an unholy stink about all of this. And let wingers brand us all they want - but shove the facts of what their people did right under their noses.

i can understand why he WANTS to and why he thinks he can rationalize going to war.  what i don't know is what in his job description does he interpret to read:  i am the president.  he doesn't even try to hide behind bush, he is out front and in the open, from his office, taking us to war.
        •  I understand that (none)
I gave my answer, and then went a bit further, on to questions you hadn't asked. Sorry if I wasn't clear about my answer.

My answer is: Cheney doesn't give a damn about what's written in his job description. He probably isn't even reading it, except with an eye to what he can't get caught doing.

The job description as Cheney defines it, seems like a combination of -
          a) I can do whatever I can get away with
          b) I deserve to do whatever I can get away with, because I'm a top dog
          c) Anyway it's ok for me to do whatever I want, if it helps makes America be top dog
