    As someone mentioned above, the Wal*Mart of then is not the Wal*Mart of now.  And it's not like this is a secret; President Clinton talked about it in My Life.  I recall him saying that she was somewhat of a consience for them at the time.

    Also, for what it's worth, your line:

    The number of Wal-Mart employees grew during the '80s from 21,600 to 279,000, while sales soared from $1.2 billion to $25.8 billion.
    says to me that they created 260,000 new jobs then, something to be proud of, particularly in a state that was (and is) rather poor.

    Lastly, while Senator Clinton isn't my first pick for a nominee, don't you think it's a bit early to be trashing her?  Let's remember that she's a sitting senator (and one of ours, by the way; not that we have enough to start throwing them away) up for reelection, and no matter how the polls look, we're a long way from Nov. 7, 2006.  Let's leave Sen. Clinton alone for now; she'll have plenty of enemies when the time comes.
