    •  I was thinking that, too... (4.00)
...I called the comment line to support Keith and complain about the lousy Ms. Cosby and Mr. Carlson.  But then I was thinking...there're soon to be two networks in search of an anchor--Olbermann will land on his feet because he's an excellent newsman, commentator, and sportscaster who's built a loyal following and a great ratings record.  ABC, CBS...take notice.

As I watched Olbermann's Monday show and tribute, I couldn't help but thinking, "this is his audition tape for the World News Tonight job."

And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I thought the same thing all during Countdown's tribute to Peter Jennings. I've just written to Keith Olbermann letting him know that.

I'd love to see him become our Edward R. Murrow. Lord, we need one now.

        •  Murrow! (none)
He was allowed to sit there unkempt and smoking and telling us the truth.

We had Cronkite who actually cared about what he was reporting.

Now we have blow-dried talking heads toeing the party line.

Olbermann would rock as a network anchor.  But no network (read: corporation) would allow him to keep being Keith.

Kaplan notwithstanding, Olbermann can be Olbermann because cable is still the "wild frontier" compared to the broadcast networks. Putting Olbermann on the likes of World News Tonight would be like putting him in a straight jacket. Just ask Bill Maher if he would ever go back to that Mickey Mouse of a network...
