  •  US casualties in Afghanistan (4.00)
Highest this past July than more than any other time since that war began.

The fatalities have increased with each passing year, and this year is the highest by far (67 as opposed to last year's 52), and the year is a bit less than 2/3rds over.  Obviously, we're talking a far smaller conflict with only about 10% of the troops stationed there, but the fact that the death rate is so much higher this year indicates that 1) the enemy is in a much stronger position than at any time since we invaded almost 4 years ago, and 2) we've probably worn out our welcome, and squandered any chance we ever had to create something like a stable Afghanistan with a functioning, representative government.  They don't tolerate outsiders taking up residence there for long periods of time, and they seem to have had their fill of us.
