    •  Hospital being evacuated by copter (4.00)
there, downtown, and another looks to be doing so soon -- Tulane's.

The administrator at Tulane, just now on CNN, reports that the levee breach caused water to rise an inch every five minutes -- an hour ago . . . and it's getting worse by the minute since.

Hundreds and hundreds in the hospitals, most of them still there critically injured and only moveable by copter -- and apparently even boats can't get there.
The administrator is holding it together by a thread of hope and grit.

And an earlier interview on CNN from a local feed was with a guy whose house split under his family on the roof.  His wife is gone, everything is gone, except his two dazed boys hanging onto his hand.

      •  VP of Tulane Univ. Medical Center said: (none)
        There were 1000 there.
        First floor was flooded.
That 1000 was not broken down as to patients, staff, family members of staff and family members of patients.
Having just been through a family member's admission, I would guess most were not patients. But, anyone that is a patient is not incredibly mobile. One doesn't stay in the hospital anymore unless they are in pretty bad shape or in earliest phases of recovery.
      •  When CNN was interviewing the VP of Tulane (none)
The evacuations had NOT started yet and HAD to be by air at this point. Same with Charity Hospital (with 90 on ventilators).
        This is REAL bad.
    •  thanks for the correction... (none)
Thanks for that correction, RandiMI.  I thought I heard wrong, hence the question mark.  They are repeating the interview for anyone interested.  http://www.wwltv.com

      •  Interview (none)
The mayor also said the twin bridges across Lake Pontchartrain are gone, another major access bridge--can't remember which--is damaged and unusable which leaves only one route left (at the time of the interview) to bring help into the city.

        this is awful

      •  Just saw all that. (none)
if that broken levee is that big, this is going to be a bigger disaster in a very short period of time. Flood waters will break down even more sections. God save those people in those buildings!
