  •  Not sure it would have made a big difference (none)
New Orleans RTA has only about 400 buses (per FTA's National Transit Database).  That wouldn't have made a big difference with the 150,000 people who stayed behind.
    •  There should have been an airlift out of the city (none)

    •  400 buses x 50 people per bus (none)
is 20,000 people per trip.  They could have made 8 trips on the day of the evacuation order and gotten everyone out
    •  in two days... (none)
400 busses could make eight 4-hour trips away and back from Nawlins.

In 4 hours, travelling at 50 mph., those busses could reach  Beaumont Texas, get close to Shreveport, Visit Jackson, Miss. Drop folks off at Fort Polk, etc. etc. etc.

Take four days, and those busses could now each make eight 400 mile trips. That takes you outside of the hurricane entirely. Send all the busses west -- to Crawford, maybe? -- and no one even gets their shoes wet.

If each bus carried 50 people with one bag per person, you could evacuate all 150,000 people who were left behind.

Yes, it would take a herculean effort to pull off. But it could be done.

      And it wasn't.

      That's the biggest sin.

Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote.
