  •  you music theory geek. (none)
(btw, since the fifth scale degree [G#] is on the high E string, it would technically be a C#7#4/E.  please take note.)

yes, i'm kidding.  it takes one to know one. ;)

    •  I believe (4.00)
the chord he is fingering is a C# demolished
    •  A really screwed up G chord? (none)
      Looks more like G#(mute5)FGBA (?)

      Damn, that sounds hideous.

      Heartless and soulless.  Ughh.

    •  You're failing to account for the open G! (none)
      =)

But, as far as the guitar is concerned, once you get into the realm of wacko extended "Jazz" chords, it's all academic, anyway.  On a piano, there is some utility to being able to distinguish between a C#9no7, and a C#add2 (spread vs. cluster).  Of course, on a guitar, you can't hit every intermediate interval in an extended chord, so the interpretation is bound to be a little more "loose".

Well, you can't hit chords like that unless you're doing two handed chords, or perhaps, you're Allan Holdsworth...

Funny, a guy I work with was just telling me about his ability to tell what key a horn player is playing in based on which fingerings they're using, and here we are "chordspotting".
