Is generally at the bottom of their actions.

Think of Bush in in Farenheit 911, referring to the rich as "his base."

Why would they have wanted people to evacuate so badly that they wouldn't let anyone give them comfort in the meantime? Was it out of a concern for the people's own good, believing that this was the best way more effectively because people could get sick, say, if they lingered in New Orleans? Or was it even an established principle about evacuation: that it is the best thing to do in these sorts of circumstances, and shouldn't be interfered with?

Surely if the powers at FEMA or the White House were even with their very small brains thinking about the most effective way to pull off an evacuation they would have factored in getting water to the people that had to wait.

But what if they were not thinking about saving people--in the short or long run--but about ensuring that people were out of the way. One could argue that their intention was to undertake salvage operations  more effectively, so people could eventually come back.

But if they were thinking along those lines, they would be saving the people so they could come back. I think they don't want those poor people to either stay in or come back to their homes and neighbourhoods--they want to claim whatever of their vacated land is recoverable and redevelop it in a more profitable way.

Sorry to repeat myself from upthread. I am curious to see what people think about this. I don't generally subscribe to what I think are "conspiracy theories." I don't think the administration and its cronies would have blown up the levees, for instance, or probably the WTC either. But their brains seem to bypass emergency management and go right to how make hay out of potential catastrophes.

You are correct, and have cut to the heart of the matter. This was about seizing control of the most vital strategic point in North America, and eliminating from the situation the people who could cause the most trouble: the poor. New Orleans 2.0 will be based on the generic america template: red brick houses full of middle class white people and an Americana resturaunt on every corner, alongside the starbucks, mcdonalds, and wal-mart.

This is the rich taking advantage of the situation to complete one of their items on the checklist of things needed to secure the permanent upper class. In addition to this, cutting capital gains and estate taxes, along with giving law enforcement increased ability to monitor the plebes, and the president giving himself the power to dissapear people at will to another country for torture, basically completes most of the list and lets them start moving into the endgame of finally getting rid of that pesky constituion and replacing it with something more convienent.

Divine right of Kings is back, and here come the nobles.
