    but the idea of "culling" sounds a little far-fetched to me.

    What I would suggest might be less far-fetched is this: Maybe this is all eithr part of, or the not-so-unintended consequence, of the strategy to deliberately undrmine faith in government.

    As I commented on some other diary, my friend told me that Limbaugh has been spinning this as "See, government can't save people, government is no good, we have to PRIVITIZE."

    If anything was "deliberate" about this screw-up, I'm more inclined to think that it had to do with the deliberate hobbling of government (or anythign perceived as government-like, eg, the non-profit ARC), with the goal of making people loose faith in government spun into support for (for-profit)privitization.

    If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
