    The problem is that creating a single system for tracking such information is not trivial.  I mean creating the code and the data structures and all of that is all well and good.  The problem is getting all of these people to put their information there and making sure that the information is well vetted, organized, etc.

    This is not an information design task, the design is trivial.  It's coordinating a large group of people to do something in a consistent way.  Furthermore, even as far as the design and building goes, it would take some time to do that and by the time it's done, the moment is past.

    Frankly it would be far more useful to design a system that searches and archives the useful information from countless other sites in a generic way.  So then you can have a system that will catalog useful stories on Google, and countless other places.
