  •  Really Important Point (none)
...Haley Barbour is a Supreme Bushite - who must have done everything the right way, correct?  Then why has the response been just as excreable as in N.O.?  It doesn't follow - if it was LA's fault, why was MS subjected to the same treatment?

    •  And Barbour ordered mandatory evacuation (none)
hours later than the mayor of NO!

And all he did (in his own words) was "begging people to leave".

But the poor folks in Biloxi scraping to make a living in the casino service industry had no cars and NOWHERE TO GO.

      That's the friggin truth.

Maybe Nagin could have driven a few thousand people out with school buses. BUT WHERE TO?

Did Texas offer the Astrodome or other shelters then? Did Homeland Security had anything to offer?

The truth is: I'm convinced that Nagin was told to get people into Superdome, ride out the storm and have the cavalry ready as soon as Katrina was leaving the area.

      •  FEMA (none)
stood ready to aid the post hurricane evacuation. Then the situation escalated, then the Federal Gov did nothing.
        •  Stood Ready? (none)
          What did they do?
          Saying we're ready?
Or did they drive buses to Houston like that black kid who did wait for the Washington papedrwork coming thru?
If I'm the boss of FEMA I just ORDER action and ask for permission later.
          •  exactly right (none)
FEMA, DHS did nothing and worse, they stopped or interfered with the state and local efforts, which were overwhelemd at that point anyway.
