This is a great diary too...talking about his age while working for that mini city in Oklahoma...LINK...Joementum commented that this experience was what made him qualified for the post...wonder if that's why Joementum wants to join the investigation team???

Joefuckingmentum made the observation yesterday that natural disasters weren't that different from terrorist attacks and thus he was disinclined to sever FEMA from DHS at this time.
The only thing good about the results of the '00 election is that he will never hold higher office. That he even came close should give all of us pause.

That's why the veil has been lifted, and the party that is going to keep us safe from the terrorists has been shown to be full of shit.  If they cannot respond to Katrina well, then they certainly cannot save us from terrorists.  All the scenarios they have been scaring us with for the last 4 1/2 years are no worse than this one once the dead are counted, and the bean counters add up the tab.  Dirty bomb? a few thousand dead, a couple of years to clean up and rebuilding might not be necessary.  Nuke? could be worse, but probably not.  Poisonous gas, contaminating a water supply, shootout at the mall, all much much less difficult to respond to by FEMA.

That's why this is SO important!  Those people who voted for the chimpmeister just found out that the main reason they voted for him turned out to be bullshit, right after they found out his pet war is bullshit too.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I believe you completely missed my point. I was hardly defending Bush voters or republican notions of effective homeland security.

      •  When, oh when will we... (none)
... realize that Joe Lieberman is as big of a problem as the damn Republicans?

Natural disasters and terrorist attacks are not the same thing.  Terrorism is a police problem.  (That's right, despite all the comparisons to WWII).  Natural disasters are only partially natural - they exacerbate social and economic problems and the required preparation and responses are quite different.

Someone suggested that Joe should be DHS Secretary instead of Chertoff. I think this might just happen if for no other reason than it is a disasterously bad choice... So Bush may well do it.  After all, he gets to blame a "Democrat" for whatever goes wrong and we get another incompetent fool at DHS.

mostly because he's a D, but Joe needs to go.

I'd never sleep with someone capable of producing a Joe Leiberman.

Even vermin have their standards, you know. hmphf!

    •  mini city? (none)
Well that "mini city" is Edmond Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  Probably comparable to some of the suburban communities bordering Dallas.

Anyway, yes, its a real joke that that would be his only experience in emergency management.

The Daily Oklahoman is supposed to be running a story on Brown tomorrow as is the Washington Post.

      •  Well... (none)
OKC is about half the size of Dallas...and Edmond at the time was less than 35,000.  Plano has more than 200,000, and Irving has nearly 200,000, both are suburban cities surrounding Dallas.  Edmund ain't anywhere near that size...Even Denton is twice the size of Edmond.  Bedford is probably the closest in size.  Regardless, emergency management in Edmond I doubt is a huge operation.
