on a midwestern music forum that i participate in, politics is as frequent a subject as the auditory arts.  since the administration dropped the ball in the gulf, the bush apologists have been relatively silent.

until today.  they are starting to bait progressives with predictable rhetoric:

    subject:  4 years ago today....

A group of nutball Muslims flew two airliners into the twin towers and killed thousands of innocent people. Another was flown into the Pentagon, doing more damage and claimimg (sic) more american lives. Yet another that was headed for the White House was retaken and brought down by the heroic passengers, killing everyone on board.

Our President then spent the next 18 months preparing to take the war to the enemy's land.

"We shall not distinguish between those who have committed these acts and those who harbor them"

If you agree with the methods and strategies or not, this has to happen. We will not forget, and we will not sit idle while these psychotic Muslim extremists take potshots at innocent American lives. We will root them out and destroy them if it takes the next century....even if someone like me sits at his computer and has to say: "100 years ago today..." We will not forget.

this is just a snapshot into middle america, but if it's an indication, the locusts are completing their 12-day cycle and screaming their annoying mating call from the trees anew.  they will unsuccessfully bait us with false patriotism in hopes that they can recapture their maligned offensive.  it's just sad.  the kossak community isn't one to fall into such a base ploy, but it's worth mentioning that it is predictably going on.

best wishes for safety and speedy return to all of our brothers and sisters mired in foreign lands.  we love you and keep you in our prayers with every waking breath.

    •  The thing is (none)
Four years later and with a gripping example of what WOULD happen in the face of another 9/11 staring us down in the form of a floating Louisianan corpse, the "9/11 bounce" effect has got to be pretty diminished.  How can Americans really work in the "terrorism = fear = strong government response = Dubya" equation anymore?  We've seen that chain break down very vividly.

My prediction is that, as long as Dems and liberals keep the pressure on Bush for dropping the ball on Katrina, we'll see his support DROP with every poll.  Particularly as more and more media outlets are beginning to remember that Iraq was supposed to be about WMD, not an indefinite occupation.

      •  amen (none)
        beautiful prose.

and i agree with every word.  every person that held on to the notion that this bloated president was their refrigerator perry of a bygone bears era is realizing that the walls of soldier field have crumbled.  (that one's for you).  all the good midwestern god-fearing folk that thought the conservative movement represented their values are waking up to reality:  jesus was a liberal.

amen to the converts. we have a place at all of our tables for you.

and to the new red kiddie table: the devil is licking his chops.  you guys won't live forever.
