  •  Talented & Honest (none)
I agree with you, there are without doubt many talented and honest journalists and reporters.

I wonder what they think and feel.  I wonder if any of them think they should do something about the current situation, or if they are, like Daily Howler has pointed out, more interested in not making waves, protecting their future prospects.

    •  They're not the power in the newsroom (none)
I know a couple. They have to answer to idiots, who have to answer to idiots with an agenda. They see colleagues who are charicatures straight out of Heathers getting ahead because they give their editors what they want -- artifice and water haulage. Their editors piss on their copy for sport, and their publishers piss on the principles of journalism (see last week's Times Mag on Les Moonves) while they straddle the ad/ed wall like it's a bucking bronco. No sane honest person, having seen inside the news industry, would want to go into it these days, and even if they did, they wouldn't get very far.

"Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
