    NERT Training

The SF fire department has a 6 evening course on disaster and emergency preparedness for individuals and neighborhoods. A friend took it and loved it. I and another friend will be taking it next month.

It's 6 nights... but I figure its worth it to make me 'prepared' mentally...and at least not freeze!

      I haven't made a big deal out of it (yet) but I'm a CERT-trained disaster-response volunteer.

Going to CERT (or NERT, heh) training is one of the best things you can do to prepare for disaster.  Your local CERT trainers will know, in excruciating detail, exactly what risks you face in your community, and how to plan for them.

of course we san franciscans like to do thing a bit differently (or off as my father says)...

so it's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team

what does 'C' stand for in CERT (City?)?

That's the federal name for the program.  Of course San Francisco had to file off the serial numbers and stick their own label on it.
