Are you going to get to a towel and the Hitchhiker's Guide at some point? </snark>

Actually, as a proud owner of an alpha/beta/gamma detector with a ten-year battery and RS-232 downloads every 5 minutes, I've made my assessment of the next likely event in Washington, DC which is upwind from me. They don't make duct tape like they used to.

      Ok, I'll bite. What's a RS-232 download every 5 minutes?
      •  data logged from Geiger counter to PC (none)
captainlaser has his Geiger counter hooked up to a PC to log radiation readings every 5 minutes.  Not sure what good this is going to do except as a historical record, but hey, whatever helps you sleep...

You are so evolved it boggles my fragile little mind. Now give me a 4, fucker. (Bill In Portland Maine, to Meteor Blades)

actually the only thing it was good for was to save me a couple of hundred bucks on a Radon check in the basement of the house I bought.

What helps me sleep better is knowing that if some dirty bomb incident happens, I won't be kicking myself saying "I should have bought a radiation detector". I know somewhere in the back of my walnut sized brain I'll never need it. But it's like all the long clubs in my golf bag...I carry them around and never use them.

My brother-in-law went through a survivalist period and carried a year of food around in his trunk. All it did was to get him to bitch about his gas mileage.

My wife has a more realistic attitude...she says that if shit does happen, she doesn't want to live to see it. She's depressed enough over Katrina.
