    while also pointing out that Bush and his administration failed to act and hindered rescue efforts. We can do both.

    Recently, I put up a post at dKos that documented Bush's bumblings in Lousiana after the storm. It concluded,

    What led us here is the belief that we can ignore politics and remain untouched. We prefer not to get involved with government or examine the job it's doing. We choose our leader because we think we like his personality, even though everything we know about him is the product of a carefully scripted stage play. That may be the greatest lesson Hurricane Katrina has given us. If we aren't personally involved in screening out bad leaders and electing good ones to run our government, somebody else WILL step in and run it for us. And they will not have our interests in mind.

    I think the two themes fit well together.

    Note: I'm not the dKos member Cup O Joe. Although we have similar usernames, his real name actually is Joe, whereas I merely like coffee.
