    ...I think his stance on CAFE has done more damage to his constituents than good. As a result of say, GM's foot-dragging over the years - EV1 aside - on low-polluting, high-mileage-per-gallon cars, including its early outright opposition to hybrid technology, the Japanese are gaining a larger share of the car market, which hurts GM workers as surely as does a non-union Japanese car plant in Kentucky.

    Dingell, who is a good guy on many issues, wound up too much on the side of the makers and union leaders, not union rank and file.

      That opposing upping CAFE is really not in the interest of the rank and file, but until recently support from the rank and file for increased CAFE has been shaky due primarily to the vehicles produced in and around his district.  So you have the UAW and Big3 leaders telling you one thing, (which they also tell to the rank and file), and little noise from the masses.   This is what we need to change.
