  •  Very funny, but still... (none)
I certainly got a good chuckle out of this - very clever and amusing.  However, at the end, I felt a little icked out.  All these jokes about Condoleezza Rice sleeping with the President... I know, she pretty much dug her own grave with the whole "my husband" slip-up.  And I certainly have no love for the woman.

Yet, it still feels kind of weird to me that there's this big national (international, maybe) joke about the first Black woman to be Secretary of State being the President's mistress.  Just seems like a slippery slope, given the historical perceptions and realities of white men's sexual and societal domination/ownership of Black women.

I gave you a 4 because you sound as though you write in good faith, but I assure you that there was no racial animus or intent in my creating that scenario.  This diary was, of course, a creation (and indeed based upon the "my husband" line coupled with the one photo that happened to catch her--surely talking--but appearing as though she was puckering for a kiss).

My comment wasn't posted to say, "Look, GOTV did this to be racist and sexist!"

I'm just trying to point out that the whole phenomenon of people joking about Rice being Bush's mistress has definite echoes of both sexism (society not taking women in power very seriously and often focusing needlessly on their sexuality and gender presentation, or attributing their high status to them "sleeping their way to the top") and racism (going all the way back to white slave owner's illicit and secretive affairs with Black women.)  I think that, as the self-proclaimed liberals/leftists we are, we need to look at whether the way that we lampoon conservative women and people of color is not so different from the racism and sexism perpetuated by conservatives themselves.

Don't get me wrong; I understood what you were saying and took no offense from it.  My point is, though, that race had nothing to do with the parody, either in posting it, or for that matter, in deciding to not post it for the very reasons you now raise.

the idea that Condi is George's mistress is just a widespread joke. However, there are those who are relatively certain she actually is. I am one of them. And I thought that quite some time before her "hubby" comment. Since then I've found no reason of any sort to change my mind.

Can you provide me with another rational reason why a Nat Sec Advisor who failed so utterly on 9/11 should be appointed SOS? And no, I see nothing any more "tin foil" about it than I do about Clinton getting BJ's from Monica.
