  •  Put "demand" section in global terms... (none)
    ...and you get the "white" first-world nations happy to let recession hit the "people of colour" of the "global south". It is all very well for US progressives to try and spread the burden equally among Americans, without realizing that a large part of the burden has already been dumped on developing nations. The US population less than 4% of the world's population and all industrialized nations account for maybe 14% of the world's population. A large part of the energy crisis is caused by India and China, together accounting for 40% of the world's population, lifting themselves out of poverty (with the attendant increase in energy use). If we 14% are to share out energy with that other 40%, there will be much less to go around.
