  •  The MIC (none)
The problem here is that the military industrial complex is so interwoven into our governing body, who, if anything, doesn't seem too concerned. In fact, they welcome it -- more money for them and their friends. The MIC is just another way for the crooks in our government to systematically funnel our tax dollars to war contractors and the politicians who run them, work for them, take money from them, etc. And if you have all these planes and tanks and ammunition just laying around, you better put them to use, lest the MIC become obsolete.

"Defense Contractor" is such a ridiculous term. When was the last time they manufactured something that was truly used in defense of our nation against a threat? WW2? Were "defense contractors" even around en force then?

    •  Exactly why. (none)
"And if you have all these planes and tanks and ammunition just laying around, you better put them to use, lest the MIC become obsolete."

The founding fathers recognized how dangerous a standing army could be, although for a different reason (a bunch of armed-to-the-teeth guys standing around with no war to fight), long before the country was warned by Pres. Eisenhower about the inherent danger of an MIC.  Hence the first part of the 2nd Amendment that the NRA ignores, "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state...."

Notice how the framers of the Constitution did not say, "A standing army, being necessary to the security of a free state...."  because they knew that a standing army was actually a danger to a free state.  The U.S. in the 20th century certainly proved that.
