    For biodiesel from soy, you get a 3-1 energy return if you assume the resulting soy meal is used and not discarded, and there is plenty of market for soy meal. Even if you discard it, it is slightly energy positive.

    Soy is not the most efficient source, but it is by far the most common in the US. Europe uses half a billion gallons annually, primarily made from rapeseed oil - similar to canola.

    Of course, a limited amount of bd can be made from  used cooking oil that would otherwise be discarded, so that energy capture is excellent.

    It could be worse. msaroff could still be living in Texas.
