It is a simple fact that the USA uses a lot of oil compared to other regions.

    Take a look at BP.

Look at oil consumption by region.
According to the "communist oil company" BP the USA in 2004 consumed 9436 [thousands of barrels of gasoline daily].
Europe consumed 3851. Including the EU 25 member countries with 3514. Asia Pacific including Japan and China consumed 6507.
Total World excl. Former Soviet Union consumed 77028.

So the USA alone with perhaps 5% of the world population consumed around 12% of the gasoline available worldwide.
The EU 25 with as larger population than the USA needed just a third of the US consumption. Asia Pacific just two thirds.

So is it to much to ask that perhaps you Americans should try to get a better mpg rating for example?

      Unfortunately, we're not in charge.

But getting better mileage out of petroleum only delays the inevitable.  The real need is for infinitely sustainable, renewable energy. And THAT is what I'm asking about - what are Europeans doing about that?

The people should fight for their laws as they would for their city wall.
