    is essential if you are going to run on this issue, and after Iraq, I think it is the most important issue these candidates will have to deal with, because it is a worsening problem unlikely to be addressed by the next election cycle.

    Experience, living paycheck-to-paycheck for a time in your life is the only way to avoid some of the tone-deafness on the subject you see in a lot of politicians.  It's why you would say "hand-up" instead of "handout."

    Even when they believe in it, if they haven't lived it, they can't really speak to it with much force.

    Even ted kennedy rings hollow to me when he speaks about poverty because I KNOW it is born more of noblesse oblige than from experience.  No doubt that he cares, but it's effectiveness that I want to see.

    Clinton was credible.  I think Edwards can be.  I've seen some amazing speecifying from him on the issue.

      If the Republicans stay in power much longer, An Army of One isn't going to be just a slogan.
