W ran companies, and was governor of a populous state. He didn't do a great job, from a liberal (or stockholder!) perspective, but his governing/management style had been on display for all to observe.

    •  Given how W ran his companies (none)
I'd say that is a major negative in terms of leadership ability. In Texas, the governor is powerless (Lt. Governor is more powerful), plus he only served his first term as governor and spent his next term running for president. Edwards will have one more chance in 2008, and I hope for the sake of the Democratic Party and the nation that he is nominated.
    •  You're (none)
just fucking ignorant, aren't you.  Bush ran his companies, which btw were given to him by his daddy's cronies, into the ground.  As governor of Texas (a low-powered office) he oversaw the decline of texas' educational system and environment.

But he did execute a lot of people, some of them possibly innocent.

      •  I'm not ignorant. (none)
You're ignoring my points, which are factually based, and don't have anything to do with whether Bush was a self-made man. I never claimed he was. I have been campaigning against Bush since he made the cover of Time magazine in 1999, or whenever it was.

    •  Baloney (none)
The only thing W did was run companies into the ground.  he was a figurehead who was bailed out of trouble by his daddy's friends.  He was also a figurehead Governor, as I pointed out above.

      •  That's True But (none)
It doesn't change the fact that he was a CEO and Governor. That's the kind of thing people want to hear about a presidential candidate. History proves it. Senators do okay, but not against governors. End of story, and the facts be darned.

    •  Come on (none)
We all know that if his name were George W. Smith, no one whatsoever would have considered him for the presidency.  His resume gave him a veneer of credibility but it was all about the name.
