  •  My letter to Sen. Baucus (none)
While I'm not technically a constituent, any senator's vote on a Supreme Court nominee, especially for Chief Justice, affects me personally.  That is why I am writing to express my displeasure at your announcement that you will vote in favor of confirming John Roberts as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

First of all, he has not been forthcoming in any substantive way on the questions he has been asked about privacy rights, including reproductive rights.

Secondly, the Bush administration itself has refused to relinquish many documents that would have revealed what John Roberts is really about, including information on an ostensibly illegal activity during the Reagan administration, Iran-Contra.

Finally, the spirit of bipartisanship doesn't exist presently nor will it as long as Republicans like those in charge now are in power.  These are people who put political hacks like Karl Rove in charge of $200 billion dollar reconstruction projects for New Orleans, and refuse to investigate wrongdoing whenever it involves one of their own.  For them, it's party over country, and such an attitude cannot be trusted, nor can their nominees.

I hope you will reconsider your support for John Roberts.  I look forward to your response.
