    Completely agree, yragca.  Principled opposition via a no vote on Roberts is the direction I would lean towards, but it doesn't make sense to make this vote a referendum on party loyalty.  Like it or not, the 2004 election assured that a conservative would be appointed, and so here we are.  Thank goodness the calls for filibuster have not been heeded -- there's no doubt it would have done more harm than good.  That would just have allowed Bush to use the second appointment on someone more rabid, having already made the case that the Dems just can't be worked with.  A case that the MTM would have absolutely run with.

    By the way, you're thinking of Sancho Panza...:)
