  •  When was the last time Specter decided to fight? (4.00)
I think your scenario is wishful thinking.

The last time Specter didn't ultimately cave on a big issue was Clinton's impeachment. And, I believe his words were "not proven." It was counted as a no, but there is a distinction between not guilty and not proven.

    •  I Think Specter Might Fight (none)
Remember, Specter is fighting cancer, an enemy with a pretty good win to loss ratio.  Facing death, I would think, gives one a different perspective when some dufus President that you dont really respect anyways comes knocking on your door with instructions.  Maybe Im wrong.  Maybe Specter will cave. But maybe not.

Regardless of what Specter does, I agree with Armando's post.  The Dems wimpiness literally has no floor.  Just when I think Dems have touched bottom (bankruptcy bill), I am shown that their is always further to go.

      •  I agree with Armando too (none)
I just don't think Specter has got the fight left in him. This is a different Specter than the one first elected to the Senate, or the Philadelphia DA I remember.

    •  Anyone think Leahy has (none)
been on the phone with "Sandy Baby"?  She, after all, has vowed to remain on the Court until a replacement is confirmed, and Rehnquist's death seems likely to bolster that inclination.  Maybe she nodded to Leahy that she has another term in her if Roberts ascends unimpeded.
