  •  Roberts and Thomas (none)
The weird aspect is that Roberts' "answers" were most similar to those of Clarence Thomas, the second most stridently rightist justice on the court.

The Democratic Party leadership and much of the Democratic punditry betrayed the grassroots by continually repeating the mantra that Roberts' was certain to be nominated.  Even worse, the mantra continued even after Roberts' huge ethical problems became public.

Behavior like this lowers Democratic turnout and acts as unpaid advertsing for the Green Party.  Democrats who cannot vote against a Taliban-like extremist such as Roberts send a message that the Democratic Party is a lost cause and that progressives should work to replace the Democratic Party rather than working within the Democratic Party.

Reid, to his credit, is voting against Roberts.  But, he has provided zero leadership in the essential fight to stop his nomination.  There was plenty of evidence before the hearings that Roberts was a dangerous, corrupt extremist.  Reid shouldn't have discouraged Democrats to stay neutral until after the hearings.  He should have led the charge against Roberts from the beginning.

    Take Back the Democratic Party
