    This was brought up during Katrina as well, with a group of BSL3 facilities outside the city.  I haven't heard anthing about more about that, but the difference between levels is like a richter scale, the increase is danger is geometric, not arithmetic.  Here's a handy guide to the precaution levels.

      I am not trying to unreasonably scare anyone, but I just think it's responsible for people to know that a real catastrophic hurricane hit in Galveston could be made worse here. By ther way, this would also be a huge loss for the scientific community.

        "Get out or YOU WILL DIE!" before Katrina hit.  He wasn't totally right (some people stayed and survived), but I don't think anyone has gone back and given him shit for it.

        This is a serious thing to think about and you've done a really balanced job here.  "Antrax and West Nile about to kill Millions!" would have been over the top.
