    Chandeleur Islands- Chandeleur lighthouse, Breton  National Wildlife Refuge- Chandeleur lighthouse (formerly active US Coast Guard lighthouse) not visible from aerial photos, presumed destroyed  9/6/05   
    New Orleans- New Canal Light (US Coast Guard, active)    (at entrance to Lake Ponchartrain)  From photos appears to be knocked off foundation
    Biloxi-    Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum    A portion of the building remains.  Some artifacts salvaged, including lens from Ship Island
    Ship Island- Gulf Islands National Seashore Ft. Massachusetts  Storm surge flooded and damaged fort: earthen berm damaged, large granite blocks
    dislodged and in moat, interior filled with mud and debris several inches thick. Extent of damage to Rodman cannon, artifacts and exhibits unknown.
    Conservator visit scheduled.  Reconstructed lighthouse destroyed. 9/8/05; Update 9/13/05; 9/16/05   

    In other histopresto post-hurricane news, there's substantial damage to historic properties in LA, MI and some in AL. A good many historic properties in Biloxi are simply gone, or laying under the wreckage of larger structures, but there are some survivors elsewhere. For example- Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
    (Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery) took a massive hit, including nearly 5 feet of water inundating buildings, 1200' of brick cemetery wall destroyed, and human remains exposed. Anybody who's curious about how a particular cultural/historical site might have fared, drop me a note in response and I will check the list I've got.
