  •  Getting Shot & Killed (1.50)
BY YOUR OWN PEOPLE is definitely NOT part of the deal!

Poor training yields hair-trigger fingers. That's what happens when you send "Weekend Warriors" into battle without extensive battle training.

    May he rest in peace.

      •  HE Was A Ranger (none)
But were the folks who shot him Rangers? I thought they were Guardsmen, but could be wrong on that.

Yes, HE was a Ranger. But between IED's, inadequate Armor (both personal & vehicular), an unconventional "enemy", inadequate training (Reservists & Guardsmen) and G-d knows what else, SOME of these folks are definitely TRIGGER-HAPPY.

That's what I'm told, by people WHO'VE BEEN THERE! Especially the "Weekend Warriors". Scared Shitless, they are, to phrase it another way.

Right or wrong, they didn't count on IRAQ as part of the bargain...Especially the Nat'l Guardsmen.

        •  That is most definitely the case... (none)
In many other places, but this particular case is well documented, although some will argue as to what is spin and what ain't. I don't think anybody contends with the account that his own platoon was split and apparently lost what is called "Situational Awareness" to the point that Tillman and his contingent were mistaked for tangos.

Generally you won't see a Ranger unit in close quarters with Reservist and NG based on the fact that Rangers are used in the most dangerous circumstances and the others, for the reasons you point out, aren't.

Moreso in Afghanistan, where Tillman died, and most troops are Regular Army.

      •  Not ALL (none)
        But certainly THIS ONE.

And many others in the IRAQ debacle.
