  •  I was in Havana (none) 1991.  I visited a hospital with a waitress and her doctor husband.  We went to see her nephew who had fallen with a fork which stuck in his leg which had gotten infected.  The boy was 6 years old. He had surgery where the infection was scrapped from his bone without anesthesia and no pain meds.  The hospital was dark but clean although they had to supply their own bedding.  And BTW the doctor made 4 or 5 dollars a month. His wife as a waitress in a hotel made far more than he.

The people are extraordinary but Havana was a sad, sad sight.
