  •  Cheery Jeery Fr... aw, s#!t. It's only Thursday? (4.00)
Cheers & Jeers on September 29th

Cheers to tilting at windmills.... on this date in 1547, Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, best known for his novel Don Quixote, was born near Madrid, Spain.

"Every man is as Heaven made him, and sometimes a great deal worse."
                      - Don Quixote

Cheers to Baseball on September 29th:
In 1920, Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees hit his 54th home run of the season (against the Philadelphia Athletics) to set a new record.
In 1928, a 9 inning record of 45 hits was set by the Detroit Tigers (28) and the New York Yankees (17), in a Tigers' win, 19-10.
In 1954, centerfielder Willie Mays of the New York Giants made 'The Catch', a spectacular over-the-shoulder grab, robbing Vic Wertz of the Cleveland Indians of an extra-base hit in Game 1 of the World Series.... Giants win, 5-2.
In 1957, the New York Giants played their last game at the Polo Grounds in NYC, losing 9-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.... the next year, the Giants were in San Francisco, CA.
In 1986, rookie pitcher Greg Maddux of the Chicago Cubs defeated rookie pitcher Mike Maddux of the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3.... the first siblings to start a game against one another.

Great Balls of Fire! Cheers to singer/piano knocker Jerry Lee Lewis, born on September 29, 1935 in Ferriday, Louisiana.
Jeers to Jerry Lee Lewis, who was shooting at bottles with a .357 magnum on this same date in 1976, and accidently hit his bass player, Butch Owens, in the chest.... then accidentally shot him again.

Jeers to former Arizona Governor Evan Mecham, who, while defending a fundraising letter attacking the "homosexual lobby" trying to recall him in 1987, was asked by a reporter for the "true version" of several different explanations about the letter.... Mecham's retort?

"Don't ever ask me for a true statement again."

Jeers to Zsa Zsa Gabor, who was convicted for slapping a Beverly Hills Cop on September 29, 1989. Hmmm, wonder if it was Eddie Murphy....?

Jeers to former California Gov. Pete Wilson, who vetoed a bill outlawing job discrimination against homosexuals on this date in 1991, saying it could lead to unjustified lawsuits.... Republican Reason #642. I think they're up to #14,588 now, and they ain't sounding any better than the earlier versions.

    Jeers to Dick "Dick" Cheney....
Because he should be jeered every freakin' day!

    •  Ah, Evan Meacham (4.00)
Would that other GOP members were all as clear racist crooks as this guy.  I mean it's so fun to read it's hilarious.

First, the guy only won because he had 2 Democrats running against him.  Then there was one racist comment after another.  Then the recall that got more sigs than Meacham had votes.  Then he was impeached for obstruction of justice and misuse of government funds.

      My God.

All your vote are belong to us
