    yee of little faith.

See, this is all useless.  Not just everything we do in the world--and rest assured it is for 100,000 years from now, none of us and nothing we do will be remembered--but specifically on this site.

It's become more and more apparent to me over the past five years that all the activism and non-violent protesting in the world will do precisely squat.  When you're dealing with evil people who have no shame, the old rules of the game don't and, indeed, can't apply if you have any hope for success.

let me tell you a story.  a month ago, i was laid off from a crappy job in DC, where i was the office bitch (below both my experience level and my education).  suddenly an amazing opportunity opened up, i packed up my shit, bought a car and a week and a half later i was on the other side of the country, blogging for one of the top 5 races in the country.  why am i telling you this, well, dear Raybin, not every fight that we win will deal with life or death.  here i am fighting for working people's voices, making sure teachers don't have to work 5 years before they gain the right to a fair hearing before being fired, getting affordable prescription drugs in the hands of millions and ensuring funding for schools and public saftey.  you know what? we are gonna win, on every single one of the 7 propositions we are working on.  you know what that means: 2.5 million californians will have their voices heard over a governor, rich businessmen and drug companies.  and thats fucking awesome.  and i am pouring my heart out to make that come true.

you never know what is going to happen.  do the best you can, but protect that big heart of yours.  we won't always win, but we must keep fighting.

so go young Raybin, find your bubbly optimism again.  find a small way to make a difference to make the larger ones seem less impossible.  this place will keep chugging along after you go, but will welcome you back with open arms once you find your way back.
