    may simply have acted to save Miller's life. Whatever the deal was that Libby was interested in, in exchange for her finding a way to limit her testimony to Plame, it makes it possible for her to leave jail and live. She may have been in her own self-imposed witness protection program. And the only guarantee of her safety is this thinly veiled but very public agreement. In other words:

    If you can find a way to limit your testimony to Plame, I can agree to let you live.

    If anything happens to her, this published letter may very well incriminate him.
