    And the reason I am supporting 550 is because it requires the paper ballot to be first inspected BY THE VOTER.  The challenge now is that the recommendations by the Carter-Baker commission could potentially be used to weaken the provisions of the bill, including the voter-verification aspect, during mark up.  This is what we are trying to prevent.

    As to turnout of 23%--yes, that IS an embarassment to democracy. Will you run again?  If so, maybe your campaign could highlight the turnout issue and get you into office on a second bid?
