    If all those questions come up, and Miers is confirmed, it says to the folks in DC and in America that there is no consequence for those scandals. To confirm her would be legitimizing those scandals, to look the other way.

    The only reason you would bring up those scandals is to force Bush to pay a political price. And the only way that happens is if Americans see that such a price is to be paid. If Miers is confirmed, they get away with it, no price paid.

    Simply raising the issue without insisting on consequences actually sets us back, not moves us forward.

      and since it already looks like the Dems won't mount a serious challenge to Miers, then their horseshit will be well and truly legitimized.

      Who would have thought that a relatively obscure lawyer named Harriet would have heralded the end of participatory democracy in this country?
