    I used to keep an earthquake kit in Utah, they are supposed to be sitting on a big fault that should be letting loose sometime in the next 100 years -- and the populated part of the state is built on sand.

    Now that I live in Pennsylvania, I stopped maintaining the kit.  We did have a period where there was no power for 3 days in the middle of winter; our power lines are buried, but most parts of town have above ground wiring.  That was a lot of fun, we slept next to the wood stove and generally got really cranky.
