  •  Senator Reid Tries to Say Nice Things (none)
Senator Reid is a polite person who will say nice things about someone until he believes he has been double crossed.  The process of taking a nominee to the U. S. Senate for a formal round of introductions is one of those pleasantries of the Senate that makes it a more civilized body than the House of Representatives.

Interestingly, one of the complaints lodged by many Supreme Court afficianados today was that the announcement of the nomination of Harriet Miers as a nominee precluded coverage of the Supreme Court investiture of Chief Justice Roberts.  Attorney General Gonzales apparently wore a morning coat to do the presentation of Chief Justice Roberts for the Supreme Court ceremony.  Tomorrow, no arguments are scheduled in the Supreme Court so President Bush could have waited one day and avoided stepping on the Supreme Court pomp and circumstances.

    •  Some of the toughest people I've known... (none)

.. were also among the nicest people I've known. Its a fallacy that being tough automatically means that you're confrontational and that being diplomatic automatically means that you're weak.

As long as the prerequisite for that shining Paradise is ignorance, bigotry, and hate... I say the Hell with it. --Inherit the Wind
