  •  it's been my experience (none)
    that when you major in education, you are not required to take all the credits of the subject area you are specializing in.  So say, you have a 4 yr degree. you'd only get about 2 year of your substantive area (1 yr gen ed, and then about 1 yr education courses). Peronally, I feel a teacher needs more. Just my opinion, of course.
    •  Every degree has about a year of general ed (none)
      and a year of methods and phsychology etc... to do as you think, teachers would have to have the equivalent of a masters to start at 30k a year.  

      I have had many teachers who were experts in their field.  Many of them were not particularly good teachers.
