    being little... maybe 7 in the car driving with my dad. Out of the blue, he starts talking about how the Russians could destroy us all in a matter of minutes. I don't recall being as scared as I should have been, but, in retrospect, you have to admit that's pretty fucked up. But my dad was always one for tactless drama.

      had a class 1 security clearance, and was pals with GHWB. We were digging a bomb shelter out behind our house. He used to pay us $10 an hour to dig it, but it never got finished. Nobody wanted to go in it, we would rather die. I think men of a certain generation, the korean war generation, were ultimately over-dramatic about a lot of things.

      good idea to be a veterinarian (my 10-year old dream job) because if there was ever a nuclear war I would have basic medical training. I've been trying really hard not to say something that stupid to my son...but he's only three so I have plenty of time to come up with a doozy :>
