  •  Judy in Aspen (4.00)
Judy was a speaker at an Aspen Strategy Group Conference that took place August 2-7, 2003, in Aspen.  The Program Description:

"In Search of An American Grand Strategy for the Middle East (August 2003)
The Aspen Strategy Group summer workshop in Aspen, Colorado brought together ASG members, regional experts, and several administration officials to discuss the contours and complications of American grand strategy in the Middle East.  The group tackled reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Arab-Israeli conflict, region-wide economic modernization, democratization and security, while examining the necessity for a generational commitment to the region."

Judy's topic: "Judith Miller - Countering WMD Proliferation After Iraq"

WaPo reported that Cheney was spending the month of August " at his home in Jackson Hole, Wyo."

The Jackson Hole Rodeo took place every Wednesday and Saturday night at 8pm during August of 2003.

Miller says she bumped into Scooter in his sunglasses at "a rodeo one afternoon."

Nice sleuthing. This is beginning to get interesting. So just what the hell was Judy doing there? Just a coincidence? Uh-huh. Suddenly this rodeo thing is sounding like a scene out of a Hitchcock film or Le Carre novel. It's possible that the reason she was in Jackson Hole had nothing to do with Plame per se (those guys probably thought it was a minor nuisance that would blow over), but she was definitely in up to her eyeballs with these dudes on something. Which again raises the question: Why would she include this clue in her NYT piece?

About the shades: it's possible she met him some time before the rodeo started. And it was August, so the sun was up later. Or they may have been in a fairly well-lit area. Libby may have been consciously trying not to be noticed, etc.

About the dates: August 7, 2003 was a thursday, so the rodeo was on one of 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 30. Probably one of the earlier dates.
