  •  Who, this guy? (none)
Apparently he had better things to do while Judy went to the slammer.

Famed editor Jason Epstein, husband of jailed New York Times reporter Judith Miller, has lately been making himself scarce at the federal facility in Virginia where his wife has been incarcerated for the past three weeks....In a frothy social column yesterday about a celeb-glutted Mediterranean cruise, featuring everyone from Isabella Rossellini to J.K. Rowling aboard the ocean liner Silver Shadow, the New York Sun's A.L. Gordon revealed:

"One passenger with his mind soberly on home is the literary icon Jason Epstein. ... Ms. Miller would have been on the cruise had she not gone to jail."

His wife's in the slammer and he cruises the Med?

In an (unsuccessful) effort to convince Judge Hogan to order home confinement, Miller's lawyers filed confidential medical reports on both Miller and on her 76-year-old husband Jason Epstein. Miller's lawyers apparently argued that Epstein's medical condition (undisclosed to the general public) suggested she should be confined with him at home. The judge rejected the argument. Three weeks later, Epstein was on the cruise with Isabella Rosellini and J.K. Rowling... Miller was reported to be angry NOT that Epstein was cruising the Mediterranean, but that the fact was discovered and reported.

I'm quite sure Fitz has not forgotten this -- and she could still be charged for this particular deception. Miller is not merely a brazen liar, but a careless one, and her attorneys (Abrams at the time she went to prison) have clearly either done a poor job educating her about the legal risks of perjury and obstruction of justice, or more likely, have been unable to convince her that she can't "game" the system and simply tell whatever lie seems expedient at any given time. I predict that Miller will in time be slapped a number of serious criminal charges. She crossed the point of no return a long time ago. I strongly suspect Fitz has more on her even now than she realizes...

Incidentally, Miller looks to me like a CLASSIC case of a borderline personality with narcissistic and histrionic tendencies. When I finally saw footage of her in the newsroom following her first testimony (and obviously blowing lies there, too), I "got" it. Miller is very scared. She's also very arrogant, very mean, very funny, very vindictive, a lot of things. While the fact of her mental illness does not excuse her actions, it will be hard for me from now on to make light of her.. she's disturbed. Deeply disturbed. And her illness provides a certain insight into how she has behaved to this point, and how she will behave from now on. This will be a fascinating ride.
