Word on the street is that "Doom" is just another awful adaptation of a video game.  Pity, cause the original Doom gave me the willies playing it late at night.. in the dark...  (hey by the standards back then the graphics were freakin' awesome!).

I was kinda hoping this would be a good flick...though deep inside I knew what would happen.
I have played Tomb Raider and seen the moviel - they both sucked IMO.
I saw and played Super Mario Bros - game good ... the movie had John Liguizamo as Luigi, c'mon it couldn't have been that good.
I loved playing Doom and Doom 2 late nights when I was young, connecting up to a server across town to play 4 player deathmatch on levels where you couldn't have rooms/hallways on top of each other - and now I allegedly have another crappy movie to watch.

And it works both ways.  Games made from movies usually suck, (a few exceptions, 007 and Star Wars Battlefront and KOTOR come to mind).  And movies made from games usually suck.  (Resident Evil and the one you mentioned come to mind)

I think it mostly comes from geeks with high expectations.  They usually cut out the parts that make them cult classics to market to a larger crowd.  The larger crowd wasn't impressed from the start, and the geeks are angry the detail isn't there.

Doom, I can't even imagine being a good movie.  I guess the graphics in the original game are about as detailed as I want to see the hack and slash bloodfest that was the original game.  I just can't see an hour and a half of bloody chainsaw demon action being that appealing to watch.  I wanted to shower after playing the game.  I can't imagine it in fully rendered cgi.

In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry, and is generally considered to have been a bad move.
