    I think the Prez only had the power to issue pardons for Federal crimes. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Agnew was indicted by a Maryland state grand jury.

      You are absolutely correct. Agnew was indicted and convicted in Maryland and Nixon had no power, authority, or jurisdiciton to pardon him.

      Agnew was indicted by a federal grand jury on bribery and tax evasion charges. In a pre-arranged plea, he plead no lo to the tax evasion charge and walked. No pardon was necessary, he wasn't going to hold office again anyway, and no jail time was included in the penalty.
