    This is no different than if you and the residents of your town had worked together over many years to build up a resource, say (fittingly) a nice stand of natural timber forest nearby that provided jobs, beauty, recreation and tourism for your locale.

    Then one day a large corporate interest manages to gain logging rights to that forest, courtesy of large political contributions, of course.  When the resource you and your parents and grandparents worked to build is cut to the ground, sure it's a huge loss for you.  But is it a loss for them?  So the question is not who has suffered as a result of these policies, but who has gained from them.  And I think we know the answer to that question.
